Leadership

It seems I seldom post my painted work now. Most of my posts are more towards the wargaming related activities rather then painting. I still paint though but really it is much more directed to need then previous. My recent foray into the General Bonaparte meets Chain of Command revealed a need for more mounted colonels. I have lots of Prussians but had to order some Austrians and Brunswickers from Perry. I also needed some Dark Age cavalry leaders for my Men of the North. These are from Footsure Miniatures and are quite nice.

The photos were taken overexposed, which I must say is harder to correct then those taken underexposed. Well I am doing my somewhat regular review of my Napoleonic troops, I have become quite curious on how many I have actually painted. I am laying them all out on table, hopefully have some new photos soon.

Saxons to the left and British to the right

I have been really slow to photograph figures, mostly I think because I find it a real challenge to take good photos. I have a new camera, but you have to know how to use it. I have learned to recognise what some of the problems are, but am still working on it. I would love to get to a point where I just have to crop the photos and do nothing else. I did buy some daylight bulbs and usually use two swan neck lamps with as much ambient light as possible. My gaming table is just under 3 skylights so ambient light is usually not a problem. I actually had to increase the contrast in these photos as they were too light. I always appreciate any comments on how to improve. A few months ago Curt of Analogue Hobbies explained to me the problems I was having with the temperature, it was just an enormous help.

Dux Britanniarum: Romano British Warriors

I am now more then half way though my Romano-British force for Dux Britanniarum. Just three units of Numeri left to do. Here we have the 2 units of 6 figures each of the Milites as well as 4 Skirmishers with slings. All Gripping Beast figures. Each unit of Milites has a banner from LBMS, as are the shield transfers. As the Milites are regular infantry so unlike levy I wanted to keep them uniform, but with less detailed clothing then the 1 elite unit of Comanipulares. I thought white looked best. White base, AP Dark Tone, then a dry brush of GW Dry Praxeti White. As they can form into a shield wall movement trays were also painted. I have to say that I am really pleased with how these came out.

Dux Britanniarum: Romano British Elites

Here is my 6th submission to the Painting Challenge, and the start of my Romano-British force. All Gripping Beast figures, I got the starter box for Xmas and they are nice figures. I probably could of spent more time selecting figures and I know other manufacturers carry figures for this era. For my SAGA Andalusian warband, I ended up spending hours on the internet and bought them from 3 different manufacturers.
