Pennsylvania Regiment

After many months, I finally got this unit painted. I must of started just before last Xmas but they were in Montreal while I have spent most of the time in Salem. They are lovely figures from one of the Brigade Games kickstarter but I do not feel I did them justice. I found the details a little difficult to pick out. These were painted in the traditional fashion, it might be that I am getting used to using speed/contrast paints and I am losing my touch although I am not really sure if I ever had it!

This Provincial Regiment are to join my British forces for Muskets and Tomahawks. I decided to go with the Pennsylvania Regiment, as they had somewhat of an unusual colour scheme. I think I might be done now for the French Indian War. I really have more then enough forces, although I may be temped to paint a few more Native Americans. I have no regular French forces but have no plans to add them yet.

I am a completist, and I was missing a French Militia man so I added him into the pile.

Well, where to next aside from adding the occasional unit to my present forces. I really do not have a laid pile just some bits and pieces lying around.

I do have a box of Rubicon Marines for Vietnam as well as some Perry Samurai, I am tempted to move them on to the table next.

Level I/II Leaders for Sharp Practice

I thought I would never paid any 28mm Napoleonics again, but I am need of a few personality figures to use as leaders in our games. Brigade Games has some nice personality figures especially related to the Sharpe TV series so I went ahead and obtained some. I painted up to figures over the weekend. These were primed white, I then used AP Speed paints with some touch up with some acrylics.

Everyone will of course recognise Sgt Hakeswill, the second figure will be a French NCO.

Depending on the scenario they will be Level I or II Leaders

Next up will be Major Ducos and Major Nairn.

Some Puritans

I have been looking for some figures that I could use as Witch Hunter aligned militia for Devil in The Wilderness. I found these figures in the Brigade Games: King Philip's War line. As is usual with Brigade Games miniatures, these were quite impressive. I am trying to use up my Citadel acrylics (excellent paints but sick of their pots), I am down to about 20 pots now and most of them are muted colours so excellent for the late 17th century. I am not sure where I could use them playing Muskets and Tomahawks, but if pressed I am sure I could work it out. I believe, I could have done a bit more prep work on them but I am quite happy how they came out.

These are extreme close-ups, so they look a little rough, but for the table top I am quite pleased. I usually do not take close-up but I was intent on showing what great miniatures they are, rather than to demonstrate my painting ability.

And you thought I stopped painting!

I need to apologise that my blog has been so gaming focused rather than hobby focused. I still do a lot of painting as well as terrain work but I have never been good at taking photographs. Find it a little boring I suppose. I have actually taken these photos twice, I first did them with a white background but did not like the look so have gone with them in situ.

When Muskets and Tomahawks II came out, I really only had a British force, I was able to play one or 2 games last summer with them using my militia as Milice Canadien and my Indians as French allies. With Virtual gaming you really need to get both side so time to build up the French. I bought a bunch of Conquest figures from Warlord Games and then the next day I found out that Brigade Games had a FIW Kickstarter, I had a good look at their figures. They looked at an excellent match for the Conquest figures so I thought I would put my hand in.

I really favour the Conquest Miniatures, they are beautifully sculpted and are much more anatomic than most of the other manufacturers, which I find too large and orc like. Well, I have to say that I was really pleased with the Brigade Games miniatures, they are indeed an excellent match. They are also really nice figures, I was especially impressed with the Indians. They were quite interesting.

These were all painted over the last few weeks, a lot of Contrast Paints with Citadel washes and then highlighted. The brown spectrum contrast paints are quite useful and I really like the Apothecary White over a flat white Tamiya airbrushed primer with VMC Silver Grey and Off-White highlights.

I still have about 20-30 figures left, although I doubt whether I will paint them all. Maybe a few more Indians, another unit of Highland Lights as well as the Trois Rivières unit of les Compaignies Franches. I also think I may try to find some figures that I can paint as British/American Provincial units.

I really enjoyed painting these figures and am very pleased how they came out.
